Rotomolded vs injection molded — how to choose?
By size and duty: over 800 mm per side or rough handling favors rotomolding (seamless, high toughness); tight sealing and finish on smaller cases favors injection. We review your spec free of charge.
Tooling cost and timeline?
Depends on geometry: rotomolding aluminum molds run roughly 1/3–1/2 the cost of injection steel molds. Typical tooling takes 35–45 days including trials and first-article approval.
Can you run our specified compound?
Yes — custom modified formulas to your flame, ESD, UV and cold-impact targets, with third-party test reports.
How do ODM projects work?
You bring requirements and positioning; we handle industrial design, structure, prototyping, tooling and production. IP ownership is contracted, with NDA throughout.
What is the MOQ?
50 pcs on existing molds. Tooled projects are typically planned on annual volume with first orders from around 500 pcs, negotiable by model.
Rotomolded or injection molded — how do I choose?
It comes down to size and load. Injection molding suits small and mid-size cases with tight tolerances, fine surfaces and low piece cost but expensive tooling. Rotational molding suits large and oversize cases, delivers 4–8 mm seamless walls with superior toughness, and needs cheap tooling but slower cycles. Above roughly 800 mm internal length, or for heavy stacking loads, rotomolding wins.
How thick can rotomolded walls be?
Typical walls are 3–6 mm, rising to 8 mm or locally thicker for heavy-duty and machinery cases. Thicker is not automatically better: wall thickness must be designed together with ribbing and span, or you simply add weight and cost with little impact benefit.
Can rotomolded cases be forklifted and stacked?
Yes. We offer bases with forklift channels and stacking lugs. Empty cases stack four to six high; loaded stacking height is calculated from per-case load and warehouse clearance. Tell us your racking dimensions and load ratings if the cases will live in a pallet rack.
Will they fade or degrade outdoors?
Rotomolding PE can be compounded with UV stabilizers; standard formulations hold up outdoors for 3–5 years. For high-exposure environments such as coastal or high-altitude sites, a higher UV grade and darker color markedly slow chalking and fading.
Can rotomolded cases be insulated or double-walled?
Yes. Rotational molding naturally forms a double wall in one shot; filling the cavity with PU foam produces an insulated case for cold chain, vaccine and low-temperature sample transport. Lightweight fills can instead provide buoyancy or weight savings.
What is the minimum order quantity for custom rotomolded cases?
Rotomolding uses aluminum tooling, which costs far less than steel injection molds, so custom entry barriers are low. Existing molds start at 50 pieces; a brand-new tool is best amortized over 200 pieces or more, negotiable by project scale.
