What determines the price of a protective case?
Four things: shell size and wall thickness (material volume), molding process (injection, rotational or blow), interior specification (CNC-cut EVA costs far more than plain foam) and hardware (latches, hinges, wheels, handles). Order quantity then spreads setup and labor cost across more units.
How can I tell whether a case is genuinely waterproof?
Check three things: a continuous, jointless gasket channel; compression-style latches rather than simple clips; and a pressure equalization valve. Ask for immersion test records, or run a water-fill inversion test yourself — far more reliable than published claims alone.
What information do you need for a custom case?
At minimum: the payload's dimensions and weight, the operating environment (immersion, temperature extremes, salt fog), the transport mode (air, sea, road), plus quantity and deadline. For precision foam we also need 3D data or a physical sample to scan.
How much is tooling, and who owns the mold?
Steel injection tooling ranges widely with case size; rotomolding aluminum tooling costs far less. Customary practice is that the customer funds the tool, which is then used exclusively for their orders and not supplied to others. Volume-based tooling rebate arrangements can also be negotiated.
Can I test samples before ordering?
Yes. Existing-mold products ship as samples for your own drop, immersion and fit testing. For custom projects we can 3D-print a prototype or validate the foam layout in a similar-size shell before committing to tooling, which greatly reduces the cost of getting it wrong.
How are export shipments arranged?
We normally quote FOB or CIF from our Zhongshan, Guangdong factory through Shenzhen or Guangzhou ports. Because shells are regular in shape, cases can be nested and stacked to raise container utilization; we supply the loading plan and per-container quantity with the quotation so you can model landed cost.
