Test per IEC 60529: case is placed in a dust chamber with circulating talcum powder (or Arizona road dust) for 8 hours. Pressure differential: 2 kPa (8x normal atmospheric pressure difference). After test, no dust should be visible inside the case.
IP5x: dust-protected (not fully sealed, some dust may enter but not in quantities that interfere with operation). IP6x: dust-tight (no dust ingress). Our premium cases meet IP6x.
Yes. IP6x only tests dust protection. For water protection, look for IPx5, IPx6, IPx7, or IPx8. Our premium cases meet IP67: dust-tight (6) and waterproof to 1m for 30 minutes (7).

Similar but not identical. Mil-Std-810 Method 510.7 uses 1-3 hours of dust exposure at varying wind speeds (1.5-8.9 m/s) at temperatures up to 60°C. IP6x uses 8 hours of dust at 2 kPa pressure. Both certify dust-tightness; we test to both standards.

Sand is more aggressive than dust due to larger particle size. We test our cases per Mil-Std-810 Method 510.7 (sand and dust) and IP6x (fine dust). Our cases pass both: no sand or dust ingress after 8 hours.
