Pressure valve technology

Auto pressure equalization valves (GORE-TEX or similar) are critical for waterproof cases. They allow air pressure to equalize between the case interior and exterior when subjected to altitude or temperature changes. Without a pressure valve, the case can become vacuum-sealed (hard to open) or burst seal at altitude. Pressure valves also reduce condensation by allowing humid air to escape before sealing. KeXinMaterials uses GORE-TEX PM100 valves rated for 1.5 psi pressure differential.

Saltwater testing

For marine applications, we test cases in 5% NaCl solution (simulating seawater) for 1,000 hours. Pass criteria: no visible corrosion, no seal degradation, no foam water absorption. This is more demanding than standard IP testing and ensures our marine cases last 5+ years in saltwater service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What IP rating do the cases have?

Standard cases: IP67 (waterproof to 1m for 30 minutes). Premium cases: IP68 (5m continuous immersion). Extreme cases: IP69K (high-pressure, high-temperature washdown). We test every production batch to rated IP level.

What is the operating temperature range?

Standard cases: -20°C to +80°C. Cold-rated: -40°C to +80°C. Hot-rated: -40°C to +95°C. Gasket material (silicone or EPDM) is matched to operating temperature. We test extreme cold (cryogenic) and extreme heat (desert) cases per Mil-Std-810.

Can the cases float?

Standard IP67 cases do not float when empty. Optional closed-cell foam flotation makes cases buoyant (up to 8kg payload). External flotation collars or pelican-style foam blocks can be added for man-overboard recovery.

What about automatic pressure equalization?

Yes. All IP67/IP68 cases include Gore-Tex pressure equalization valves. These allow the case to be opened at altitude or after temperature changes without difficulty. The valve prevents water and dust ingress while equalizing pressure.

What materials are available?

Shell: PP (light), ABS (balanced), PC (strongest). For marine: UV-stabilized PC with anti-corrosion hardware (316L stainless steel). For medical: autoclavable PP. For military: Mil-Spec PP with EMP shielding.

What is the difference between injection-molded and roto-molded cases?

Injection-molded cases: high dimensional accuracy, complex internal features, lighter weight. Roto-molded cases: seamless, uniform wall thickness, better for large cases (100L+). We operate both processes.

What testing standards are used?

IP rating tests: IEC 60529. Drop tests: Mil-Std-810 Method 516 (1.2m, 26 drops). Vibration: Mil-Std-810 Method 514. Immersion: 1m/30min (IP67) or 5m continuous (IP68). Salt spray: ASTM B117 (96h). UV: ASTM G154 (2000h QUV).

What about gaskets?

Gaskets are silicone rubber (food-grade, autoclavable, -60°C to +200°C) or EPDM rubber (good for general use, -40°C to +120°C). Gaskets are replaceable with simple tools. We supply replacement gasket kits for all case models.

Can the case be locked?

Yes. Standard: TSA-approved combination locks. Premium: biometric fingerprint locks. Heavy-duty: dual-key locks for classified applications. We can also integrate RFID locks for fleet management.

What foam is used?

Closed-cell polyethylene (PE) foam with anti-static coating. Standard density 30kg/m³ (shock absorption) + 45kg/m³ (precision-cut top layer). For heavy gear, we use 50kg/m³ + 60kg/m³. Foam is autoclavable and chemical-resistant.

Are the cases certified for hazardous locations?

Selected cases are ATEX/IECEx certified for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas. We supply cases for oil & gas, mining, and chemical processing. Anti-static and non-sparking materials standard.

What is the warranty?

5 years on case shell, 2 years on hardware, 1 year on foam. Lifetime technical support. We replace any case showing manufacturing defects within 30 days. For OEM/ODM clients, we offer extended warranty (7-10 years) and dedicated support.

Waterproof Case Sourcing Guide

How to spec your waterproof case

Determine your environment (rain, splash, submersion, marine). Choose IP rating: IP54 (splash), IP65 (jet spray), IP67 (1m/30min), IP68 (continuous). Measure your equipment + 20% for foam. Choose shell material (PP, ABS, or PC) based on UV and impact. Specify custom foam for your gear.

Lead time and MOQ

Standard SKUs: 7-15 days. Custom foam + logo: 25-30 days. Custom mold: 60-90 days. Standard MOQ: 50 units. Custom mold MOQ: 1,000+ units.

Size recommendations
