Challenge

RCN needed cases for sensitive electronics and weapons systems aboard Halifax-class frigates. Conditions include: (1) constant 95% humidity + salt spray, (2) severe vibration from ship engines and weapons fire, (3) shock from depth charges and missile launches, (4) electromagnetic interference, (5) limited storage space. Standard cases corroded in 6 months, electronic failures doubled.

Solution

KeXinMaterials provided custom MIL-SPEC cases with: (1) 316 marine-grade stainless steel hardware, (2) silicone seals rated -50 to +200 C, (3) Sorbothane shock mounts for vibration, (4) EMI/RFI shielding via conductive foam liner, (5) custom compact dimensions for shipboard lockers. Each case certified to MIL-STD-810H + MIL-STD-167 + MIL-STD-461.

Result

Zero case failure in 18 months. 240 cases deployed across 12 frigates. 70% reduction in electronic failure rate vs previous cases. RCN has standardized KeXinMaterials for all shipboard equipment. Continuation order for 6 new Arctic Offshore Patrol Ships in 2026.
